Slowing Down with JORD Wood Watches
Wow! I just realized I haven’t written a blog post in a month! I didn’t mean to ditch you guys, but it has been a busy month between birthdays (my mom’s, boyfriend’s mom and my birthday all fall within about 2 weeks of each other!), work and a couple little weekend getaways. It has been fun, but dang.. this introvert homebody is tired and ready for a weekend spent chilling with my dogs and wine.
For the past year and a half I’ve had a smart watch. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. It comes in handy at work if a coworker calls since I always keep my phone in my pants pocket. (And just for a clearer picture I wear men style pants at work, the pockets are huge and I keep my phone on vibrate.) Anyways, after a few months of having the watch, I stopped wearing it at home. I always felt “on” with constant notifications even with my phone being halfway across the room. Its hard to disconnect when your wrist is always vibrating. I started feeling burnt out and tired. I like to keep track of the time, but I don’t always want to respond to messages right away. It’s the introvert in me.
I started to remember an oversized, ceramic watch I had years ago. It was white and heavy but I loved it. I have no idea where it went. Lost in the many moves I’ve had in my adult years. But I remember loving and styling that watch. So I started a hunt for a new, sustainable one. Watches are an investment. You need them to work for you and your everyday. After a few weeks of on again off again looking, JORD approached me asking if I’d be interested in partnering together. OMG, YES. Like how did they know I was in the midst of searching for a sustainable, everyday watch? Are they psychics? Ok, but seriously. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We had a quick beach vacation planned, and I knew I wanted to get away with Kris for my birthday. Both being events I like to know the time, but also want to slow down and enjoy the moments with the people around me.
So I did some research, found other similar watch companies and then couldn’t say “yes” fast enough to JORD. They are honest and transparent when it comes to their watches. Something I value and take seriously in a company. And when I saw my Frankie watch, it was love at first sight. And you know how I feel about love at first sight items. Simple, yet elegant this watch goes with everything in my closet and is exactly what I was looking for. It’s unique, bold and a statement piece all wrapped in one little, lightweight package. Even Kris can’t stop saying how gorgeous it is! I think if it didn’t look so feminine, he would be stealing it from me. And I’ve never seen the guy wear a watch that wasn’t his smart watch!
Since having my watch, I’ve taken it on two weekend getaways. Once to the beach, and then to a farm. It allowed me to stash my phone and still know the time. I was able to slow down, enjoy my surroundings and my loved ones with no distractions. And man, did I need that. Kris working 2 jobs, and my weird work hours (hello midnights, you suck) we were finally able to just have a glass of wine together and have good, honest conversation. I didn’t feel “on” and that is refreshing.
So here are my 3 Reasons to Slow Down with JORD
They have beautiful wood watches that are sustainably sourced and made. They let you know the wood the watch is made out of, where it was sourced and even if its on the IUCN endangered list. They even mention the sustainable ways they are gathering the wood that might be considered vulnerable. Like my Frankie watch. They only use whole wood stock with zebrawood.
It’s lightweight. I even forget I’m wearing it at times, until I bang it into a wall. (still no scratches!) There is quite literally nothing weighing you down.
It’s unique. I know this one sounds cliche, but I’ve never received so many compliments on an accessory before. Every time I wear it out, someone compliments the watch. It just makes me want to start a conversation about how its beautiful AND sustainable.
JORD is a company I feel good about supporting and I’m still so honored they wanted to partner up with me. I have a contest going on that ends tonight, 9/23 for a chance to win $100 towards anything on the JORD website. All participants will receive 10% off their order. All credits good until 10/21/2018.
